Circle of Excellence (COE) members gathered for a special in person event at Los Coyotes Country Club in the city of Buena Park, CA since going virtual during COVID-19. COE members enjoyed a hosted reception and physician meet and greet before the presentations began. PIH Health Orthopedic Surgeons Andrew Luu MD and Andrew Hsiao MD both spoke at the event. They shared the latest surgical and non-surgical treatment options for joint pain and provided a demonstration of ROSA®, a robotic surgical assistant. ROSA features the newest technology available for total joint replacements of the knee and hip.

PIH Health Foundation invited Mohammed “Mo” Ghonim, Pharm.D., Vice President of Laboratory, Clinical Research, and Pharmacy Services, to lead a virtual gathering of Circle of Excellence members. Mo shared important health information about the latest guidance on COVID-19 vaccines and boosters. As both a leader at PIH Health and a fellow Circle of Excellence member, we are grateful to Dr. Ghonim for helping us provide this unique opportunity, exclusively for Circle of Excellence members.

Circle of Excellence members gathered together for a live virtual presentation highlighting the behind-the-scenes activities that supported PIH Health’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our speakers for the evening were Ceonne Houston-Raasikh, Chief Nursing Officer at PIH Health Downey Hospital; Ramona Pratt, Chief Nursing Officer at PIH Health Whittier Hospital; Judy Pugach, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs at PIH Health; and Irena Zuanic, Chief Nursing Officer at PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital. Together, they told the story of how PIH Health came together to overcome unprecedented challenges to care for our patients and keep our communities safe. They also provided attendees with information about PIH Health’s plans moving forward.

PIH Health Foundation Circle of Excellence members joined together for a live virtual gathering to receive an update on what PIH Health has learned about COVID-19 and how we responded as an organization. James R. West, President & CEO of PIH Health, welcomed and thanked Circle of Excellence members for their continued support during this challenging year and gave a special welcome to our new members from PIH Health Good Samaritan Hospital. Phillip J. Richardson MD, Vice President of Medical Affairs & Surgical Services at PIH Health Whittier Hospital, who has been a leader on COVID-19 through this pandemic, provided an insightful presentation on the disease and answered live questions from attendees. We want to thank our speakers and guests for their ongoing commitment and support to PIH Health, which allows us to continue to provide excellent care to the communities that we serve.

PIH Health Foundation Circle of Excellence members had a unique opportunity to hear first-hand via a virtual Zoom gathering about how PIH Health is combating COVID-19 in our communities. Thank you to our guest speaker, PIH Health Anesthesiologist and physician expert on COVID-19, Phillip J. Richardson MD, for providing an update on what PIH Health is doing to fight COVID-19 and care for our patients during this time.

On February 27, 2020 we held our Circle of Excellence gathering at the Columbia Memorial Space Center – a truly unique and historically rich venue in Downey. The event was graciously underwritten by The Atwood Family. Attendees were introduced to our new President of PIH Health Downey Hospital, Richard Trogman, and also heard a presentation from Gerald Beckham MD, Cardiologist, who shared ways that we can minimize the risk of heart disease as well as the steps that we can take to improve our heart health.
August 2019
On August 8, Gautam Ganguly MD, stroke neurologist for PIH Health Whittier Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Center, presented recent advances in stroke treatment at PIH Health, provided important information on how to identify risk factors as well as how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a stroke to Circle of Excellence members. The event was graciously underwritten and hosted by Oakmont of Whittier. Before Dr. Ganguly’s presentation, attendees were offered complimentary carotid artery screenings to help identify possible risk factors. Attendees also heard from fellow Circle of Excellence members, Bill and Katie Macnider, about the great care and support that Bill received from his entire care team at PIH Health.

On March 19, 2019 PIH Health Foundation Circle of Excellence members gathered at Friendly Hills Country Club to hear from the PIH Health James P. Fitzgerald MD Spiritual Care Services department and learned about the many valuable programs and services they provide to our patients, caretakers, and our staff. Attendees also learned more about the new addition of a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at PIH Health, which recently received its accreditation with glowing reviews and comments. The spiritual care services departments is now focused on future growth at PIH Health Downey Hospital and hopes to add a CPE program on this campus as well as to add another full-time staff chaplain to serve our patients. On October 11, 2018 PIH Health Foundation Circle of Excellence members gathered at our PIH Health Whittwood Medical Office Building for an educational presentation, followed by an interactive grocery store tour of Sprouts Farmers Market. Circle of Excellence members learned how the decisions that we make at the grocery store can directly affect our diet and health. We explored ways to enhance some of the food items that we love with healthier options and portions.
June 2018
On June 7, 2018, PIH Health Foundation Circle of Excellence members gathered at Ravello Bar and Grill for an evening with Rachael L. Moore MD, Chair of PIH Health Dermatology, Aesthetics and Mohs Surgery Center, and Lisette Peralta PA-C to learn more about skin health and receive tips on how best to protect our skin this summer. Guests in attendance were treated to a delicious hosted reception that offered a taste of upscale Italian cuisine right in the heart of Uptown Whittier. The Circle of Excellence ambassador for the evening, Rich Atwood, Chair of the PIH Health Board of Directors and PIH Health Foundation Board Member, welcomed our guests with opening remarks that highlighted his positive experience with the PIH Health dermatology department.
