Robotics at PIH Health

Graphic of RoboticsNational Robotics Week is observed April 6-14, 2024 and in honor of national robotics week, we want to share some of the cool robotics tools our doctors get to use every day to help patients live their best life.

Many doctors probably didn’t think they would use robotic tools to help them treat their patients, but they do! National robotics week was created to help inspire students to learn more in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, also known at STEM.

PIH Health is proud to encourage our doctors to keep learning through robotic technology. We encourage everyone to learn how technology can help aid in better outcomes and results for patients and help their doctors perform at their best.

Robotic Surgery at PIH Health is used by doctors in orthopedics, urology, women’s health, and Gastrointestinal – to name a few.

Robotic Surgery at PIH Health

  • PIH Health urologists use the Da Vinci Surgical System®, for surgeries involving the prostate, bladder and kidneys. These include both cancerous and benign conditions as well as conditions that require a reconstruction of the urinary system.
  • PIH Health gynecologists use the Da Vinci XI Surgical System®, for treating gynecologic conditions such as severe pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, abnormal bleeding, pelvic organ prolapse and certain cancers.
  • PIH Health Orthopedics use ROSA® Robotic Surgery® to provide a personalized joint replacement experience before, during and after surgery.
    • PIH Health also offers the Persona IQ® smart knee, a robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty, part of the ROSA® platform, that gives surgeons increased precision, accuracy, and alignment in real time.
    • The MyMobility App®, is a secure and privacy protected app that allows you to stay connected with your doctor and his team throughout your surgical journey. The app also allows you and your doctor to monitor your progress in the recovery process as well as help send reminders for important dates and activities.

PIH Health Orthopedic Surgeon, Andrew Luu MD tells us, “Robotics surgery is pretty cool. The use of robots in the medical industry are transforming how surgeries are performed and enabling providers to focus on engaging with and caring for patients. Robotic surgery enables your surgeon to perform surgeries with more precision and accuracy as well as customizing your surgery for your personal goals and needs”

Doctors get to work with a robot that is very special because it allows them to utilize technology and tools, along with science, to help improve outcomes for the patient and surgeon alike. Be sure to talk to your doctor to find out if robotic surgery is the right option for you.
