Nish Shah MD is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon at PIH Health. Dr. Shah was born in Tanzania, East Africa but grew up and went to medical school in England, graduating from the University of Manchester in 1989. He came to the United States on a research fellowship in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, from which he graduated as chief surgical resident in 2000. He then pursued colorectal surgery training, working directly under one of the legendary figures in the field, Victor Fazio MD, at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Shah joins PIH Health from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where he was the program director of the colorectal fellowship training program for more than 11 years. He has been consistently ranked as one of the top colon and rectal surgeons by national organizations as well as by Newsweek magazine. He has more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulitis. Dr. Shah strives to provide the most advanced level of care for patients and realizes the importance of taking care of patients at a very stressful time of their lives.
