Ali Gheissari MD is a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon who specializes in open heart as well as lung and vascular surgeries. After finishing his training in general surgery, he had two years of subspecialty fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery and cardiac transplantation at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Gheissari has been in practice in the Los Angeles area for the past 30 years. He has pioneered procedures in cardiothoracic surgery such as beating heart coronary artery bypass and transcatheter aortic valve replacement in his many years in practice.
Dr. Gheissari chose a career in medicine because he has always been interested in science and he believes medicine is a profession where knowledge, power and heart come together. He thinks that helping people at their most vulnerable time is a privilege and the satisfaction and happiness that he receives after caring for a patient is priceless. His compassion for his patients, his patience in the operating room and his desire to always learn new techniques help him each day in his practice.
When Dr. Gheissari was in high school, his role model was his uncle, a successful general surgeon. Due to his influence, Dr. Gheissari became a surgeon, and during his general surgery training he became interested in cardiothoracic surgery. Cardiothoracic surgery has given him the opportunity to apply his knowledge of physiology, anatomy, critical care and surgery in the treatment of his patients.
Dr. Gheissari grew up in France, went to high school in Iran and came to the United States when he was 17. He loves to travel, play soccer and tennis, cycle, yoga, ski, and SCUBA dive. Dr. Gheissari has been named a Top Doctor by LA Magazine and was Physician of the Year at Good Samaritan Hospital in 2019.
