Ji Son MD is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with fellowship training in hand and microsurgery. Dr. Son began her career as an aerospace/mechanical engineer with Boeing and NASA, where she was exposed to human physiology, which piqued her interest in medicine. She considers medicine to be a challenging yet rewarding profession and she feels privileged to develop special bonds with patients and make positive impacts on their lives. Dr. Son chose plastic surgery because it combines art and medicine. It is also a field that combines function and aesthetics, whether it be a tummy tuck after weight loss or a complex reconstruction of an injured leg. Unlike most other surgeries, in plastic surgery, one can see before and after for instant gratification. She underwent further training in hand surgery as this field restores function, which is critical in patients’ quality of life.
Dr. Son believes that her engineering and artistic background, coupled with steadfast dedication and a perfectionist personality leads to natural and visually appealing surgical results. She prides herself in treating all her patients with respect and care while doing her best to guide them for best outcomes. She believes that personal touch, responsiveness and follow-ups are critical elements of patient care.
It’s interesting to note that Dr. Son worked at Disneyland when she was young and dressed up as Pluto. In her personal time, she enjoys international travel and exploring America in a custom-built campervan. Her hobbies include snowboarding, going to the beach and spending time with her family.
