Andrew Nguyen MD MBA is board-certified physician, who specializes in gastroenterology, hepatology and colon cancer prevention. After earning his doctorate at the George Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. Nguyen completed his internship and residency at UC Riverside School of Medicine and received extensive gastroenterology and hepatology training at the University of Utah Health.

Volunteerism is very important to Dr. Nguyen—it’s how he was raised. He pursued a career in medicine as an opportunity to serve his community. Dr. Nguyen is especially drawn to internal medicine and the hands-on interventions that occur in the GI specialty.

“I enjoy the complexity of various cases and endoscopic procedures,” Dr. Nguyen explains. “My patients are unique, and I listen to them to understand how to treat them as a whole person.”

Outside the clinic, Dr. Nguyen likes to spend time with his family and travel. He follows the Lakers closely and enjoys watching and playing sports of all kinds.

I had a wonderful experience. Everybody was so attentive, very nice. They took the time to answer my questions. A very professional doctor, I felt comfortable talking to him, I would definitely go back, but PIH Downey does not have the specialty for my esophageal surgery, so they sent me to a doctor from PIH Whittier who was handling my case.

The wait time was awful. I had my blood pressure taken, then waited about 20 minutes to talk to the resident doctor and explain my symptoms to him. Then I waited another 20 minutes to talk to the doctor and tell him the same thing. I spent about an hour there, and all I got out of it was a referral to another specialist.

The staff was very efficient and courteous, they spoke to me, not at me. They asked me questions, they did not go through the motions of their job. The experience was personal not routine. I would %100 percent recommend the staff at PIH Downey for your health care needs.

It was a fantastic experience from the moment I checked in, to the procedure prep, to the procedure itself, to the recovery, including being wheeled out to my ride in a wheelchair. Dr. Nguyen's team is caring and friendly and efficient and organized.

The provider's nurse gave me an auth for a Fibroscan that had the wrong ph numbers to call for an appt One was a nunber to PIH hisp in Downey It was asking for a room number The second one the nurse said was for PIH in Whittier It wasnt It was the number to PIH Bellflower/Artesia

I was nervous going into this preventative colonoscopy procedure. I hated doing the bowel preparation because the Suprep tasted horrible. I'm lucky I didn't vomit. I was treated wonderfully by the entire staff. I appreciate being addressed as "Mr." The staff always explained what was happening and what to anticipate, each helped ease my nervousness. The staff always answered my questions. I really appreciate the minute I had with the doctor at the end of my visit. It was additional confirmation to what the rest of the staff was telling me. I'm very grateful to the staff for their wonderful care. I highly recommend this team!

Good evening. I think that Dr. Nguyen was a good doctor. However, I think that there is just too much, too many patients that are being referred to both of them at this office, at the Digestive Health Office. And I think that maybe it needs to be expanded to include another doctor or two, another specialist in that field, just because it's really difficult to get an appointment in a timely manner and you have to wait months out and call daily to see if there are any cancellations. So it's just very difficult as a patient to feel comfortable with the timeframe, especially when you're not feeling well and you have to wait three months because the doctor doesn't have any.

Everyone was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. The only thing missing was a map of the hospital to be able to locate the registration office. I am glad my sister and I were early, because we were going around and lost until someone that was passing by asked if we needed something and took us to the registration office.As soon as I arrived to the hospital, I asked the person that sits at the information desk and I was given directions that the second hallway to the left. There were several hallways, Anyway, I appreciated the nurse that help us find the registration office. I was at the same hospital for surgery a couple of years ago and things have changed, that is why I asked for directions. I would suggest for the person making the appointment and scheduling the procedure to mail a hospital map. I am sure I was not the only one getting lost there.

1st time having colonoscopy done and needless to say I was very nervous. Nurses, anesthesiologist, and doctor were kind and explained everything so I knew what to expect which lessened by fears. They were wonderful!

My doctor sent me to that doctor of yours to have a colonoscopy. He sent the order but Dr. (name removed) says in her opinion I don't need it. My doctor didn't listen and I was waiting a month for this appointment, and just so he could tell me (unreadable). I didn't like it because now I have to wait more time to see if there is another (unreadable). So then, I didn't like.

I explained to the nurse in so much detail what my complaint was and when the doctor came in he basically disregarded everything that I stated to the nurse and chalked up my problem to me being overweight, my BMI is too high. He suggested everything that I've already told the nurse I am doing and he was in and out of the room within minutes. I feel like he completely disregarded everything that I said and he did not take me seriously because he took a look at me and saw that I was overweight so he assumes that I'm just eating everything under the sun and not controlling my diet which I am. He felt that I was not exercising which I am.

Yeah, everything was overall excellent. The only feedback I have is when originally my doctor called the specialist for this department and kindly requested to see me earlier and they say, yep, they made some accommodation and that they were going to call me to set up that appointment, but it never happened. So I just kept my original appointment. So there was just a miscommunication around making sure I did get an earlier appointment. So that's the only feedback I have. But other than that, everything was great.

Doctor, did not take the time to listen to me or take the time see all medications I take for my condition which are not helping me. He didn't prescribed another medication to the serious stomage/ colon problem I have for over 3 months. I felt no real help. Very unsatisfied with this consultation!

Dr. Nguyen presents himself as a friendly person, he makes eye contact, he listens to what I have to say, and is friendly. This is not a common trait among most doctors. I feel comfortable sharing my symptoms without feeling bad about myself.

Well, the care they gave me ... I went in early and I'm always organized and I was there at the time they told me to take my daughter in. The only thing is they didn't explain well what I wanted to hear in regards to the vaccine they were administering. That's why I told them I didn't want the COVID one, but I was told it wasn't that, that it was to prevent getting a fever or something like that. So then, I had to figure out through other ways what it was for. Okay, thanks.

My overall experience was very good except for the fact that when I woke up I realized my tongue was hurting. I asked one of the nurses, did I bite my tongue? And I showed it to her. She said possibly it's red but it's not bleeding. To this day, four days later, five days later, my tongue is still hurting. So I don't know what they could have done to prevent that, but I don't think that should have happened. Thank you. Bye.

My PCP told me exactly what Dr. Nguyen said. He didn't have any suggestions for improvement, so what was the point of using my time and paying more for a specialist? I was disappointed with his care.

I had a colonoscopy at PIH hospital in Downey. The entire staff was great. Everything was on time. From top to bottom, all were very thorough and informative about how the procedure was going to take place. They all took the time to explain and make me feel in great care. Thanks to all staff.

Hello, the only thing I find very bad is that the doctor does not send me anything after follow-up. I had many questions, but no, I am not able to answer. I asked the nursing people the people who took the ones they gave you to prepare me before the procedure and those people who are very kind answered my questions, but the doctor did not when I knew the doctor told me that finishing the procedure from anesthesia. He was going to be there to explain to me what had happened to explain the photographs he was going to give me, but he didn't show up. There was another person who couldn't tell me that because she wasn't the doctor and I didn't see him anymore, I was still left with a lot of doubts.

The doctor was 45 minutes late to the appointment and nobody in the facility spoke Spanish. They had to bring some robot or find an assistant to explain everything. They were not professional and I had to explain things to each an every one of them surrounding my medical condition and I did not like it. I wanted to switch doctors and I will be finding a different primary physician. Thank you.
